Processing Biomass for Biofuels, Chemicals, 3 ECTS — Postponed by organiser until autumn 2024

This is a course for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. The aim is to provide a comprehensive overview of processing biomass for the production of biofuels and chemicals, in Sweden, Europe and internationally. Course outline and registration.

  • Biomass composition, thermochemical processing, pyrolysis, gasification and anaerobic digestion to biogas.
  • Conversion to bioethanol, lipids and biodiesel.
  • Research frontiers of today and potentials of tomorrow of biomass to advanced fuels and “green” chemicals.

PhD Thesis Defence: Assessment of Bio-Based Fuel Ash Effects on Magnesia Refractory Materials in Quicklime Production Kilns

Wood Biology and Biotechnology, 5 ECTS

This is a course for PhD student and postdoctoral researchers. The main objectives are to familiarise students with the biological process of wood formation, generation of variability in wood and selected contemporary approaches for studying wood biology. This knowledge is a prerequisite for developing wood biotechnology aspects. Current status of wood biotechnology will be presented.
